5mm x 10mm N52 Diametric Cylinder - 13/64" x 25/64" Rare Earth Neodymium Magnet 5x10mm

5mm x 10mm (13/64" x 25/64") Diametric Neodymium Cylinder – N52 Grade

Key Features:

  • Dimensions: 5mm diameter × 10mm thickness (Approx. 13/64" × 25/64")
  • Pull Force: Approx. 4.91 lbs
  • Magnet Grade: N52
  • Magnetization: Diametrically Magnetized (Poles are on the curved sides, not the flat ends)
  • Coating: Nickel-Copper-Nickel (Ni-Cu-Ni) triple-layer plating for a durable, metallic finish
  • Shape: Cylinder / Rod

Material Description:

Our 5x10mm Diametric cylinders are unique because the magnetic field radiates from the sides of the rod. This allows the magnet to act as a "rolling" magnetic trigger. When placed in a housing and rotated, it can be used by Hall-effect sensors to determine exact angular position or speed. These are the strongest diametric magnets available in this form factor.

Important Note: Diametric magnets behave differently than axial ones. They will prefer to stick together side-by-side rather than end-to-end. Neodymium is brittle; handle with care to avoid side-impact chipping.

Warnings and Safety Information:

  • Choking Hazard: Small rod size is dangerous if swallowed. Keep strictly away from children and pets.
  • Unusual Magnetic Field: Expect these to align "side-to-side." This can be surprising to those used to standard axial magnets.
  • Medical Safety: Keep away from pacemakers and sensitive medical electronics.
  • Storage: Store in a non-ferrous container to prevent accidental attraction to nearby tools.

Applications:

  • Rotary encoders and angular position sensors
  • Magnetic stir bars for laboratory chemical mixing
  • Precision DC motor and generator prototyping
  • Magnetic "rollers" for small-scale mechanical assemblies
  • Unique educational demonstrations of magnetic field lines
